We just keep going! This month, we're bringing you someone very familiar with poetry slams, laurie eaves! we've also gone and got Off The Chest's own Ella on the hosting duties!

As always, we'll have our incredible slam with spots available in advance and a few saved for on the door (and even through the night if you get inspired).

Two rounds, one winner, £50 cash prize!

Doors: 7:00pm
Start: 7:30pm
End: 10:30pm (please respect our neighbours and leave quietly!)

WANT TO SLAM?
We have 6 slots we're giving out in advance, first come first serve.
Buying one of our ‘Slammer’ tickets guarantees you a spot in the slam.
If you miss those, we're saving a few spots for on the night. We'll pull a few names out of the hat at the start of the night.

Slam Rules:
One Night Slam is a Two Round poetry slam, every competing poet performs twice.
Slammers will have a 3 minute time limit with a 10 second grace period, after that they'll start to be deducted points.
Must be your own work.

Laurie:
Laurie Eaves is a writer and editor from the village of Yapton. His work has been published by Bad Betty Press, fourteen poems, Fawn Press and Shooter amongst others. Most of his poems these days are sonnets based on the Sony PlayStation game Metal Gear Solid. He co-hosts the Dead Darlings podcast and hosts / produces Genesis Poetry Slam, Genesis Poetry Workshop, Homebrew Poetry and the Vogon Slam. His first collection, Biceps, is out on Burning Eye and his second, Metal Gear Sonnets, is out on Broken Sleep in Feb 2026.

Ella:
Ella Dorman-Gajic is an award-winning writer, performer, and facilitator working across poetry, theatre and screen. Her writing has been described as “impassioned” by The Guardian. She's co-host and co-founder of the poetry organisation Off The Chest. Her poetry has been broadcast on BBC Radio and published widely, including in Poetry Wales. She’s performed sets at festivals including All Points East, Shambala and Love Supreme, as well as headlining poetry nights across the UK. She’s an alumna of Roundhouse Poetry Collective.

As a scriptwriter, her 5-star play, Trade, went on an Arts Council-funded UK Tour to sell-out audiences. She won Best Screenplay (judged by Tom Waits) for her multi-award-winning short film, Back of the Net, which has screened at several BAFTA and Oscar-qualified festivals, most recently HollyShorts.

Code of Conduct
We do not tolerate any abuse. By attending a One Night Slam event, you agree to the following code of conduct:

Don't be a dick. By which we mean, be respectful of each other and don't kick down. No racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, biphobia, antisemitism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, ableism, classism, fascism, or any other kind of “ism” (socialism and optimism are allowed).
Slots are 3 minutes long with a 10 second grace period. Beyond that you will start to lose points. We ask that you leave the stage as soon as you can after this as we'd like to get all of our performers on and finish the night at a respectable time.
If your set includes potentially upsetting/triggering material, please give a content warning or trigger warning at the start - we won't include that as part of your time.

Please note that we film and photograph every event - if you don't want any video or images of you to go online, please let Tyrone know. You can do so either on the night or afterwards.

Accessibility
The bar area is down a half-flight of steps.
The event is held in the basement,down one flight of steps.
There are three individual toilet cubiclesin the bar area.
Seating chairs have no arms,sofas are available.
