Herbs and queer people have loved and supported each other throughout history, and this legacy carries on today.
Join us for an evening of exploring the numerous ways in which medicinal plants can support trans health. This will be done through blind tea tasting, and exploring different herbal applications such as balms and tinctures. Trans herbal medicine will look at how herbal medicine can support us in our own making. This involves looking at how herbs fit into our daily lives, alongside the use of hormones and alongside gender-affirming surgeries.
This session will involve:
- Meeting a plant by drinking its tea blindly. Everyone will be guided to explore the effects the herb has on them, including through writing and drawing. We'll then share these experiences together to see how the plant works on our bodies and minds, and how it compares to traditional uses and current biomedical understanding.
- An introduction to the history and current uses of herbs in trans health, and accessible ways certain herbs can be used for practical support.
- All sessions bring elements linking queerness and herbs through historical records, botany and current applications of herbal medicine in queer health.
Note: This workshop is offered as a space for learning, sharing, and community care. It is not a substitute for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), medical treatment, diagnosis, or professional healthcare advice. Herbal knowledge can complement wellbeing, but any decisions about your health, medications, or treatment plan should always be made in consultation with a qualified healthcare provider.

Odhran (they/them) is a trans medical herbalist living between London and France. Their practice involves the practical application of herbalism within local communities, researching herbal trans health, and the curiosity of seeing the world from non-human perspectives. They encourage the exploration of individuals’ subjective perspectives by involving all the senses, and by playing with the stories we learn and tell ourselves to make sense of the world.
