Join us on 23 April as we unveil our U=U Community Quilt!
Over two years, Positive East has collected thousands of photographs from the international community to help us celebrate the U=U message. Those living proudly and undetectable, and allies of the U=U message.
The photographs have been printed on fabric and arranged to create three bold and powerful letters — U=U. Over 1,200 hours have been donated by the community to stitch over and through the photographs, creating three large quilt panels, each measuring 6’ x 6’.
We’ve crafted the U=U Community Quilt with the same love and care as the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt, as an ongoing testament and powerful reminder for future generations. In many ways, the U=U Community Quilt allows us to reimagine the AIDS Quilt in the historic era of U=U.
All are welcome to join us.
What is U=U?
We are in an era of tangible progress in the history of HIV, with significant medical and scientific advancements evolving rapidly. The shadow that HIV once cast across our communities is beginning to lift. Notions of fear and grief are being replaced with hope and possibility.
U=U is central to this progress. It means that if you are adhering to your HIV medication and have an undetectable viral load, it is biologically impossible to pass the virus on sexually. This crucial message helps us break the cycle of HIV stigma and is central to our ambition to eliminate new HIV transmissions by 2030.
