Puppy Playgrnd is an underground Global Club night for queers and allies. We’ll be bringing an eclectic selection of ravey and bassy sounds from clubs around the world + the diasporas - think baile funk, ballroom, perreo, afrobeats, bubbling, techno, dancehall, latin club, batida, dembow + beyond ❤️🔥
Puppy Playgrnd is a big lover of DANCE – expect booty-shaking sounds to make you sweat, go-go dancers bringing ballroom-inspired + queer-club dance into the room, and a phone-camera free* space 💃
Our events centre queer and global majority folks – but everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the space if you can respect this ethos. Please read our safer spaces info before attending 🌻 (find this below!)
We’re super excited to open the event with a (very optional, very beginner-friendly!) ‘Soft Serve’ dance class led by the exceptionally talented Pearl, bringing a playful intro to runway-style confidence, expressive movement, + unapologetic self-expression 💅 Pearl is a Brighton-based choreographer, dancer and dance filmmaker, who has recently showcased her film ‘For Us’ as part of Black History Month (watch here 😍!) and has been the creative director for The Essense Showcase for several years running ✨

Safer Spaces Info ❤️🩹
Access Info 🌻
- *A professional photographer will be capturing the event, and GoPros will record the DJ sets (i.e. only the DJs, not the crowd). Colour-coded wristbands will be provided so you can clearly signal whether you consent to being photographed. The photographer may also take photographs of the crowd, but individual faces will be mostly out of focus in shots of this nature.
- Toilets will be made gender neutral for the evening.
- There will be two spaces in the venue – an upstairs chill-out area with seating and quieter music, and a downstairs basement area with loud music, which can be entered via a staircase. If you have noise sensitivities, we’d recommend bringing earplugs for the downstairs area 💛 there will be some earplugs available behind the bar however not enough for everybody at the event.
- Strobe lights will be used downstairs in the clubbing area.
- The clubbing area and the toilets for the venue are in the basement area via a staircase, which mean they are not wheelchair accessible. There are also no disabled toilets in the venue. We're deeply sorry about this - wheelchair accessibility is a big priority for us, however venue spaces in Brighton with this provision + within our affordability range as grassroots organisers are very, very limited. We really hope to change this in the future as we grow as a nightlife space 🌻
- The entrance to WaterBear MusicBar is accessed via 3 ascending steps and through a set of double doors into a foyer/reception area. The reception area is large enough for wheelchair manoeuvres. Ramps can be provided to assist access to the ground floor bar area from the reception area, which involves 2 descending steps.
- You can find more detailed access info in this document on the Waterbear website (p. 14-17)
