Mary Jane’s Not A Virgin Anymore (1996) is a riot grrrl coming-of-age dramedy written, directed, shot and produced by beloved queen of DIY, Sarah Jacobson. 🌻
Set in a movie theatre in the American midwest among a tight-knit group of young co-workers, this xxxtremely 90s piece of soap cinema is a joy and a testament to what can be done with just $12,000 and a dream. 🧼
Shown at Sundance 1997 to a sold out audience, MJNVA was called “a feminist Clerks” (derogatory) by Variety at the time, but defended by famed critic Roger “movies are empathy machines” Ebert. We have a big place for this gem in our hearts (lovingly restored by the good people of @agfa) and we can’t wait to hear what you think!!
For Fans Of: Dirty Girls (1996), The OC (2003 - 2007)
MJNVA is a sonic timewarp filled with Babes in Toyland, Mudhoney, AFI and The Cosmic Psychos, along with a cameo from San Francisco punk legend Jello Biafra!
Content Warning: depiction of sex with dubious consent, discussion of sexual assault

🔨 No Budget? No problem! 🎞️ PEPCOT and the Piehouse share a DIY-DNA. We both want to create places in which people can be sociable, political, creative and experimental, together. So, to kick off the PEPCOT-at-the-Piehouse residency we have planned a season celebrating the broad church that is DIY film-making. Across four dates we will introduce films made on a shoestring from across very different genres, times, sensibilities, and places.
Seating is a mixture of backed chairs with sofas in the lounge area and picnic tables with benches out front of the venue.
Venue is step-free with wheelchair accessible loo. If you have any access needs that need accommodating please do get in touch! clubpepcot@gmail.com
