We're so happy to be collaborating with NAZ for Front to Black (F2B), a literature club celebrating the depth and breadth of Black stories.
No pressure, no quizzes - this isn’t an English lit exam! You don’t need to finish the book (spoilers welcome). Whether you come to listen, share, or reflect, there’s space for you.
In this special edition workshop, Letters Without Words, we invite you to use any scraps, materials, mementos and photos to visually explore how the stories you've been told have shaped your queer identity as well as which stories are still unfolding.
This workshop is inspired by the book Don't Cry For Me by Daniel Black.
About the book
As Jacob nears the end of his life, he reaches the distance to his estranged son, Isaac. In a series of letters, he shares the truths he could never say aloud - tracing their slave ancestry in rural Arkansas, reflecting on a turbulent upbringing, and confronting the grief and silence that shaped him.
Piece by piece, Jacob gathers his mistakes, his regrets, and a love finally finding its way into words.
Don’t Cry For Me by Daniel Black is a tender yet piercing exploration of masculinity, queerness, and reconciliation. An intimate story of family, love, and understanding.
