Come and play with paint, imagination and uncertainty in a gentle, community-centred creative workshop.
This is a workshop for the girls, the gays and the theys — and anyone else who may feel intimidated by creativity, painting or the pressure to make something “good”. At Two Kats Studios, we believe creativity and play are for everyone, and that making things together can help us reconnect, reflect and build community.
In this workshop, you’ll be guided through a playful painting process where you will not know the final outcome from the beginning. Through a collaborative creative twist, someone else in the room will help change what your painting might become.
From there, you’ll use illustration pens to complete the actual task you will be assigned half way through - sounds terrifying? We promise to take you to the other end of this unscathed, and then imagine what you will be able to do after!
The focus is not on making something conventionally aesthetically pleasing. Instead, we’ll be exploring what happens when we share creative control, respond to uncertainty, and make something alive out of what is already there.
No previous art experience is needed, and all materials will be provided.
You’ll leave with your own creature painting, a reflective creative experience, and hopefully a few new local connections too.
2 Cats Studios is running a series of minimally priced workshops to gather information for further community-building activities. You are getting this experience at the cost of the materials used only, in exchange for your thoughts, so please respond to the questions in this registration, as well as the post-event survey immediately after and one month after the workshop.
