Were you a sex worker or a punter in Ye Olde London Town?
Come and tell us all about it
In 1973 Ian Johns and Julian Hows were teenagers working the Meat Rack at Piccadilly Circus. Unlike the tabloid ‘victim’ narrative, they had a lot of fun, got into a few scrapes and went on to live beautiful, successful, queer lives. Both now aged 70, they will tell their tales in conversation with Jeremy Reed, author of The Dilly and historian EJ Scott.
Not all stories of sex work have happy endings … but these ones fucking do
Thinking Man’s Crumpet, Kuchenga, reviews the politics, pleasure and pain of the queer sex workers of yesteryear. Alongside Natasha Stavropoulos and Jackson King they examine the systemic reasons why trans women of colour and global south immigrants have deployed sex work as a means of economic survival
Plus new performance from Tom Marshman and songs from Sam Buttery
