Backstreet boozers, brothels & beer floods: Shoreditch Historic Pub Tour with public historian Charo Havermans.
New dates added due to high demand!
About the tour:
The Shoreditch Historic Pub Tour is back! The first pubs were started by women in their living rooms and were a space of community as much as a place to quench thirst. The history of Britain’s pubs is just as dynamic as that of Shoreditch - from its Roman roads to a leafy suburb-turned-densely populated centre of the furniture trade and from ‘proper’ East End traditions to more diversity and finally a trendy but gentrified hub for creatives.
Learn about the diverse history of Shoreditch and its pubs by joining local pub historian Charo Havermans on a fascinating historic pub tour. This tour was initially created for Hackney History festival and proved a sell-out success. Charo weaves together different threads of history as she takes you into different pubs to explore these often-untold stories yourself.
Buildings change, but community will always be there. Come along and drink in the history!
