Facilitator
Shruthi Veena Vishwanath (she/they) is a musician, educator and curator.
Feminist, anti-caste, and dedicated to decolonising their practice, Shruthi has spent a decade unschooling traditional classical training for a more holistic practice that honours the roots of folk and mystic music practice. Her practice in both performance and teaching lies in the intersections of various traditions from South Asia and beyond. Their passion for narratives of women and queer stories have led to the creation of several works fore-fronting communities often at the margins- including Our Midnight Song- 25 night broadcasts celebrating womxn artists, Vithu Mazha: Voices of the Women Warikari Saints, Road of the Wild Lily- a piece celebrating homelands and heartlands, and Hildegard-Akka: a piece layering together 10th century mystic women.
Shruthi has performed at festivals and venues across the world- including Kabir Festival Mumbai, Jaipur Literature Festival, Kochi Muziris Biennale, India Habitat Centre, NCPA; has spoken at leading universities on music and poetry- including UC Berkeley, IIMB, IITB, and has received multiple grants for research and performance- including India Foundation for the Arts, Sandbox Collective, IAPAR, Art Omi.
Her education and facilitation practice has taken her to several schools, colleges and foundations across India. She currently leads an inclusive online community for song-learning called Music in the Machan, which brings in a diverse spectrum of artists, many from rural India including queer and marginalised voices.
They will be sharing a song from their repertoire. We will provide translations and transliterations to make it accessible even if you don't speak the language.
Trans Choir Open Rehearsal
Founded by Stephen Davidson and co conducted by Clive Clifford-Frith, London Trans Choir runs regular choir sessions leading to a show every three months. They host an open rehearsal for new and old members of the choir to get to know each other and our new rep for the season. They are designed to make use of unique voices and offer a safe and welcoming environment for all of us to be heard. The choir is non-auditioned and open to all; we’ll never ask you to disclose or prove your identity. If you feel this is the choir for you, you are welcome. Come along to any or all of our open rehearsals and consider joining us for the season!
Access:
There is flat access to the space and a wheelchair accessible loo.
All loos are gender neutral, and there is a separate space for a quiet sit down.
The venue has flourescent lighting.
Many of us are neurodivergent in various ways and we make every effort to make accommodations as needed.
Please get in touch if you have access needs you'd like us to know about :)
