Not every gathering has to happen at full volume.
We turn familiar queer dance floors into gentle spaces to breathe, slow down, and reconnect. For when the party isn't what you need, and traditional wellness spaces don't quite feel like home.
Arrive exactly as you are for a gentle, guided breathing session designed to support your nervous system, help you slow down, and create space to rest.
Together, we'll explore simple breathing techniques to help your body settle and soften, before moving into guided rest.
There is nothing to get right.
No expectation to perform or share.
You're welcome to arrive exactly as you are.
If you've ever felt out of place in traditional wellness spaces, or you're looking for queer community at a different pace, you're especially welcome here.
🌈 About the space
Our sessions take place in familiar queer venues, reimagined as gentle spaces for rest, breath, and connection.
This session centres LGBTQIA+ people, and allies are welcome to attend with care and respect for the space.
Guided by Kathryn from The Permission Space, a queer, neurodivergent breath coach with a gentle, trauma-aware approach to holding space.
Spaces are intentionally kept small to support a calm, low-pressure environment.
⏳ Timing & arrival
Doors open: 7:15pm
You're welcome to arrive anytime between 7:15pm–7:25pm to settle in and get comfortable.
The session begins at 7:30pm and finishes at 8:30pm.
To help maintain a calm environment, doors will close shortly after we begin.
Afterwards, you're warmly invited to stay until around 9:00pm for relaxed conversation, a low-pressure way to connect with others at a different pace. You're equally welcome to head home straight after the session, no questions asked.
🎟 Tickets
To help keep the sessions accessible, there are three ticket options:
£8 — Community ticket
£12 — Standard ticket
£16 — Supporter ticket
If you're able to choose a higher tier, it helps support community-priced places and the continuation of The Permission Space.
🧺 What to bring
Wear warm, comfortable layers.
The practice can be done seated or lying down.
If you have a yoga mat or prefer to use your own, please bring it. If not, don't worry we will have mats available.
You're also welcome to bring anything else that helps you feel comfortable, including blankets, cushions, eye masks, or ear plugs.
There is no expectation to stay still throughout the session. You're welcome to move, stretch, change position, or stim at any time.
Accessibility
The venue is located beneath Love Affair Basement on Hackney Road.
The main entrance is accessed via 12 steps, including several spiral steps, with a handrail on one side.
An alternative entrance on Long Square Street (also the fire exit) has seven steps with a handrail and leads directly to the level where the toilets are located.
There are three toilet cubicles: two with accordion doors and one slightly larger cubicle with a sliding door.
A low-stimulus quiet space is available at the back of the venue for anyone who needs a break from noise, lighting, or social interaction. Just let a member of staff know at any time if you'd like to use it.
Unfortunately, the venue does not have step-free access. As the building is locally listed, structural changes such as a lift or ramp are not currently possible. We understand this means the space won't be accessible to everyone, and we're actively working towards offering future events in fully accessible venues.
