What can ritual teach us about poetry?
Using the anthology Poetry as Spellcasting: Poems, Essays, and Prompts for Manifesting Liberation and Reclaiming Power, we will create and dream poem-rituals and spells together as freedom maps for ourselves and our communities.
The anthology brings together contributors like Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Amir Rabiyah, Hyejunk Kook and many others, to explore the ways poetry and ritual can, together, move us toward justice and transformation.
Writers, organisers, spellcasters and everyone in-between welcome.
Ching-In Chen is author of Shiny City, recombinant (Lambda Literary Award), The Heart's Traffic: a novel in poems; to make black paper sing and Kundiman for Kin :: Information Retrieval for Monsters. Chen co-edited The Revolution Starts at Home: Confronting Intimate Violence Within Activist Communities and is a Kelsey Street Press and Airlie Press editor. They received fellowships from Kundiman, Lambda, Can Serrat, Jack Straw and Intercultural Leadership Institute as well as the Judith A. Markowitz Award for Exceptional New LGBTQ Writers. They collaborate on Breathing in a Time of Disaster, exploring breath through meditation, health and environmental justice.
