Echoes from Hometown #2
"Echoes from Hometown" returns again at Aaja Deptford next week on the 25th of September from 7pm-10pm!
Echoes from Hometown is a workshop inspired by a trend in the DJ community to combine the rhythm of traditional music with electronic sounds to produce new genres such as Baile Funk or Amapiano. A quickly expanding movement, events such as 'Tea Rave' in Chengdu are based around Chinese tea gathering, but with the music as a mashup of traditional Chinese music and club hits.
This workshop will be one of sharing. Each attendee will swap samples of music from their cultures and communities to then develop sounds as a collective. The rules of the session are very simple: Bring your own laptop, a sample of your choice, and we'll do a lottery swapping of sounds! After each attendee receives their sample, we will spend some time producing a short track with a a chance to share afterwards. Bring any sound or genre comfortable with you, and be respectful towards everyone in the room.
