Kicking off the October season, Lost Signal Cinema Club unleashes three nights of Folk Horror in Burrito Buoy with FOLKIN' WYRD: A MINI SEASON OF FOLK HORROR… and this time, we're bringing guests.
Kicking off the mini season on October 11th, we have The Blood On Satan's Claw (1971, dir. Piers Haggard), curated and introduced by Charlie Phillips. An essential piece of British Folk Horror, often regarded as one of three films that form the “unholy trinity” alongside The Wicker Man and Witchfinder General.
In 18th Century England, a discovered corpse covered in fur begins to infect a rural village, as local children begin to engage in demonic rituals and criminal activity.
On October 18th, the criminally underseen Messiah of Evil (1973, dirs. Willard Huyck, Gloria Katz). Blending Folk and Lovecraftian horror, Messiah of Evil is a creepy arthouse film that oozes with atmosphere.
A woman searching for her father finds herself in an eerie seaside town that is under the control of a mysterious undead cult.
The final film of the mini season screens on November 1st: Exhuma (2024, dir. Jang Jae-hyun), curated and introduced by Sangmin Cha. The most recent of the films in the mini season, Exhuma gives us a new perspective on Folk Horror, focusing on South Korean folklore and Shamanism.
A team of paranormal experts attempt to relocate an ancestral grave and learn what happens to those who disturb the soil.
There will be a limited amount of season tickets for those who would like to join us for all three films, along with tickets for each individual screening.
