A Sense of (p)Lace explores the craft of lacemaking and its industrial history through an art and graphic-score making workshop and a musical performance. Patterns of the craft are translated back and forth between visuals and sound, with the aim of highlighting the value of creative communities and human expression. Participants will be guided through collaging using archival lace imagery, text and patterns, and what they make will then be incorporated into the music. The workshop is led by Katy Gillam-Hull, a crafts artist and teacher, with music written by Matthew Gilley.

Katy Gillam-Hull
Katy Gillam-Hull is a crafts artist and teacher based in London whose practice is centered around both making and research on making, often focusing on and using heritage craft skills in subversive new ways. Inspired by historic narratives, archival materials and found matter, her work is often rooted in a specific time and place and pays attention to how we encounter material and craft in these spaces. Whether it is an explorative walk, exhibition piece or participatory workshop her tactile work creates new encounters with material, exploring the way it fascinates us and the narratives it summons and reveals to us.
