Cyanotype Printing Workshop: Make Your Own Blue and White Christmas Cards
A creative pause for the festive season at Springbank Studio
Take a break from the Christmas rush and discover the beautiful art of cyanotype printing in this hands-on, two-hour workshop with photographer and cyanotype artist Daniela Sbrisny of Blueschein Printshed.
Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes, known for its distinctive Prussian blue colour and beautiful, often surprising results. Using sunlight or UV light, natural objects and everyday materials are transformed into striking images on paper. From delicate botanical shapes to abstract compositions, every print is unique.
During the workshop, Daniela will introduce you to the history of cyanotype, explain how the process works and demonstrate how to create your own prints. You will then have plenty of time to experiment, with practical guidance throughout. Working with pre-coated paper, you can explore a selection of natural materials, such as leaves and flowers, alongside found and made objects to create your own designs.
Feeling festive? You can also turn your prints into unique handmade Christmas cards! Rather than sending the usual shop-bought greetings, create something personal and original to share with friends and family this year.
This workshop is about more than making beautiful prints. It is an opportunity to slow down, enjoy the process of discovery and give yourself some creative breathing space during the busy festive period. There is no pressure to produce a perfect result. Instead, you will be encouraged to follow your curiosity, experiment with different materials and enjoy the unexpected magic of the process.
By the end of the session, you will have your own cyanotype prints to take home, new creative skills and enough knowledge to continue exploring this fascinating photographic technique at home.
No previous experience is needed. Whether you are curious about photography, love making things by hand or simply fancy trying something different, you are very welcome.
