Bijou Stories and Rebel Dykes Present
An Evening of Rebel Dykes.
Rebel Dykes follows a tight-knit group of friends who met at Greenham Common peace camp and became artists, performers, musicians and activists in London. A hot, heady, punky, sexy mash-up of animation, previously unseen rare archive footage and new interviews tells the story of a radical scene: squatters, BDSM nightclubs, anti-Thatcher rallies, protests demanding action around AIDS and the fierce ties of chosen families. Join us as we celebrate Bijou Stories’ podcast exploring the cultural phenomenon, Rebel Dykes with a free screening of the award-winning film and a Q&A. The film and Rebel Dykes – Art and Archives exhibition captured previously untold stories which have resonated both with a new generation and those who finally see their experiences represented.
This is a great piece of history, about people who took huge risks every day and every night just to be allowed to be themselves.
Time Out
Bijou Stories, led by podcast producer, Rosie Oliver, has gone behind the scenes; talking to the filmmakers, curators and artists who have created the work and the audiences who have responded so powerfully to them, to create this insightful podcast which brings another new angle to the stories that so needed to be told.
Join us for a screening of Rebel Dykes, introduced by original Rebel Dyke, Fisch aka King Frankie Sinatra, who will join podcast producer, Rosie Oliver after the screening for a Q&A session.
A judicious mix of new-minted interviews, home video footage and charming animation by Shanahan makes for a delightful, well-tempered package. The Guardian
