Bodies in Action, a nonprofit dance organization based in East London, was founded by dancer and choreographer Julian Nichols. Our mission is to bring engaging contemporary dance to audiences and marginalized communities through classes, workshops, discussions, and performances. At the core of our philosophy is a simple yet revolutionary idea: we encourage individuals to embrace their authentic selves and resist societal pressures to conform.
In our work, we emphasize the unity of the human experience, recognizing that despite differences in gender identity, race, age, sexual orientation, body type, or physical ability, we are all fundamentally human. Bodies in Action advocates for equality and inclusivity by promoting diversity within our company and in our creative endeavors.
Our goal is to challenge stereotypes and expand societal understanding of gender authenticity. Despite progress, there remains stigma surrounding non-binary gender identities and non-heterosexual relationships. We believe in pushing the boundaries of gender representation through our artistic expressions, exploring new possibilities for how we perceive and embody gender.
Bodies in Action actively supports and employs individuals across the gender spectrum, including transgender, gender-neutral, non-binary, agender, genderqueer, two-spirit, male, female, and those who identify with any combination of these identities. We also welcome individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community, embracing diversity and celebrating the richness of human experience through movement and expression. Our aim is to provide a platform where all bodies and identities can integrate and thrive, free from limitations imposed by societal norms.
