Nettle Soup Social Club is a community space for writers of all disciplines. And yes, we emphasise the terms social club and community space. We believe in the tradition of the Folk Club and the working-class social club. Imagine that, but for writers. Gone are the days of writing events where you get someones instagram, network for a bit, get no work done, and then leave feeling blue. The Nettle Soup Social Club is just that - a social club. Running from The Swimmers at The Grafton Arms (just off Holloway Road), this is a writing group for playwrights, screenwriters, poets, musicians, and writers. Alternating between a social writing group and sharing/feedback sessions, it is a much-needed space to get work done, get feedback, and create a community.
Nettle Soup is a theatre company founded by Ciara Southwood and Dan Sinclair back in 2022. We have three key tenets: folk, queerness and working-class stories. Our projects are DIY, scrappy, reliant on the generosity of strangers, counter-culture and community-based.
