Let's fight this harrowing seasonal depression together! What better way to do that than to watch the legendary Rebel Dykes?
The Rebel Dyke movement did so much for us, and we have to learn about them so we can show them the respect they deserve. This documentary looks back and helps us see why life is how it is for us in London today.
Know your roots! Put on ya boots! And come down to Avalon cafe this Sunday 8th Jan.
We will start the night with ‘Space Dykes and Other Adventures’ by Julian Konuk. Julian Konuk is a multidisciplinary filmmaker and experimental writer based in London. His practice as of late mostly has mostly centered around finding new ways of archiving queerness that do not directly stem from the alleged Western colonialist historicity. This tends to manifest itself through experimental, chaotic writing pieces lamenting on queer pasts of glitter and cabaret, zines foraying into queer futurities seen through ridiculous (redykeculous?) fonts in lime green, and short films recording short-lived epochs of queer utopias.
Doors
Doors will open at 5 pm, and the screenings will start at 6 pm. The bar will be open, so you can grab a drink if you want. There also will be pizza 🍕.
Tickets
We will be selling tickets at the door - but bring cash or PayPal and don't flake! Or get one in advance so we don't panic that no one will come! Also, there are limited seats, so buying in advance is better for you and us!
If you are an Allie, please buy an Allie ticket. If you have a good income, please buy a donation ticket. Any profits we make will be donated to a top surgery fund.
We want the screenings to be accessible to everyone, so if you can't afford a ticket please email us and we can make an arrangement.

Accessibility: Please note, there is sadly not a wheelchair-accessible entrance as there is a small step as you enter the cafe.
