Join us on the 27th of May to hear from one of the most inventive contemporary poets in the US, CAConrad, who will be reading from "The Book of Frank" and "You Don't Have What It Takes to Be My Nemesis," both newly published in the UK. Conrad is known for their unique approach to poetry, which includes using and inventing the poetic form of "[Soma]tics" - a writing prompt/personal exercise in being engaged in the present moment. They have been recognized for their literary achievements with awards such as the Lannan, MacDowell, and Pew Fellowships, and their book "While Standing in Line for Death" won a Lambda Book Award in 2018. Conrad also teaches poetry at Columbia University and the Sandberg Art Institute in Amsterdam.
The event will be hosted by author and poet So Mayer, who has made a name for themselves with their insightful writing on film and politics. Mayer is the author of "Political Animals: The New Feminist Cinema" and "The Cinema of Sally Potter: A Politics of Love", as well as several poetry collections, and "A Nazi Word for a Nazi Thing," an essay on Weimar and queer anti-fascism published in 2020. They are also a member of queer feminist curators Club des Femmes and a co-founder of campaigners Raising Films.
Guests are invited to arrive from 6.30 pm and the reading and Q&A with Conrad and Mayer will take place from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from two exceptional writers and poets in one evening.Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-can basis, with a suggested donation of £7.
