Snug Club (Queer Experimental Film Club) presents an archive film workshop with artist Sweatmother (Dyke Just Do It, Otherness Archive) supported by Margate Pride and the Turner Contemporary.
Utilising “archive” as a form of practice, Sweatmother will lead a practical and personal discussion/course on topics such as the forgotten practice of archiving in relation to trans and queer people, how the “archive” can be reworked into performance, live visuals, films and expanded cinema work. Additionally on founding Otherness Archive an accessible online archive: providing an open-access library and freely available resource, featuring their first iteration - focusing on *transmasculine moving-image, both contemporary and pre-existing work. This is a resource for our trans and queer community. I think it would be nice to add how the use of archive footage has possibilities of use in performance practice, live visuals, etc. etc.
At the end of the day each participant will be invited to share their work-in-progress film created in the workshop. This will be an open sharing inviting friends and other members of the queer community to enjoy conversation and sharing ideas, feelings, reflections from the pieces presented. The participants will have a piece of work to take with them to further develop and or share.
All levels of filmmaking are welcome to this workshop.

Sweatmother
Sweatmother is an artist and filmmaker based in London. His moving image work blends performance, self-recorded documentation, internet and archival text/footage in order to explore and make visible queer lived experiences. Experimental techniques are often incorporated throughout his work such as the triple baked method, an image making technique using a video synthesizer.
His film, Untitled, was recently selected as part of the Official Competition Oberhausen's 69th Film Festival and placed 1st Prize Jury of the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Sweatmother seeks to create art for his community to share, learn from and find solace in sensitive depictions of their shared raw realities and obscured histories. He continues to develop his visual art practice alongside his collaborations and lived experiences, proposing new ways the world can interact with otherness.
Sweat is the founder of Otherness Archive, a digital archive documenting queer films and its pioneers, Co organizer for London Trans Pride and artist resident for the queer rave INFERNO, His most recent work includes DYKE JUST DO IT at the ICA London.
