Jonny continues to develop his new play Silvertown with a series of monologues written from the perspective of his characters about their journey to the precipice they find themselves at the start of the play. Set in a 1967 pub in Silvertown at The London Docks, The Kent Arms, a group of gay men close the pub for the night only to be interrupted by two straight couples looking for a lock in.
Raymond (also known as Rachel) - Landlord of the pub. Torn between two lovers past and present. The new writing looks at the dangerous love affair he embarked on fifteen years earlier with a ‘straight’ man.
Pat - Raymond's partner, recounts his day before this tumultuous evening. A day which started out with good intent and ended up with him making a bonfire of his relationship.
Reg - What makes a man like Reg tick? What motivates a narcissist like him to mistreat those he loves; if anyone who loves themselves as much as Reg is able to really love anyone else. Or is it all a game?
Rita - Rita carries a secret. A secret she desperately needs to get rid of - but is it an act of fear or courage, or both that led her to terminate her fourth pregancy; her fourth baby with Reg, as she approaches forty.
These are work in progress readings from text of research monologues to help Jonny flesh out the characters and their lives which he is imagining. Feedback will be invited after the readings.
