Greetings Cosy Clubbers! Outside is getting cooler and the days a little shorter, so this month we're setting some time aside for a little lie down with our intro to Restorative Yoga. This is your chance to slow right down and sink into a deeply nourishing practice. Come create a nest for yourself, in a warm environment curated for calm. This is your invitation to rest.
“Restorative yoga poses are soothing, as relaxing as a massage, and more restful than a nap. The practice is like pushing a restart button.” - Dr. Gail Parker, Author of Restorative Yoga for Ethnic and Race-Based Stress and Trauma.
"A Little Lie Down with Restorative Yoga" is hosted and led by Sy (she/her), Q'nC Club Founder, Yoga teacher and rest advocate.
Full details for the Queer 'n Cosy Club can be found here. Contact Sy directly here.
What to expect…
This gathering is an opportunity to practice a short restorative yoga sequence in a cosy environment with a small group of like-minded folks. This will be a 45minute floor based practice but can be adapted for those who may prefer to use a chair. There will be a brief introduction before we start, followed a break for tea, reflection and integration after our rest. Props such as bolsters, blankets, mats and foam blocks will be available to fill in the negative space under the body so that it may rest in alignment. You will not be required to hold the pose, rather the intention is to be held and supported by the props. This practice is taught with trauma sensitivity and you will not be required to remain still throughout the practice. Your autonomy and sense of agency are both respected and celebrated.
What to Bring…
Please wear comfortable loose clothing or whatever you feel most at ease to rest in. Layers may be handy to help regulate your temperature. We will have blankets and bolsters available but you may prefer your own blanket or cushion from home. Feel free to bring any snacks or nibbles, comfort items, journal etc. anything that you may need to feel present in the space.
Accessibility
The Space: This offering is currently booked in a first floor studio and not wheel chair accessible, however efforts will be made to accommodate specific accessibility needs if brought to our attention, we may be able to offer online slots or move to the ground floor studio in some cases with enough notice. There is on street parking nearby and a short journey down a cobbled street is required to access the studio. We have mats and bolsters for seating as well as chairs available upon request. There are two gender neutral restrooms in the building one on the same floor and one on the ground floor, unfortunately these are not wheelchair accessible. There is also a treatment room which can be used as a break out space. There is gas and infrared heating, fans for when it’s warm, as well as tea making facilities on site. The studio has dimmable warm lighting. The studio & equipment is regularly aired and sanitised, however please be considerate of others health and spacial needs when in the space. There are masks available and hand sanitisers. Do not attend if you are feeling unwell, have symptoms or could be COVID positive. If you have any queries or requests, please contact us here.
Donations
These offerings are supported by donations from our cosy clubbers, this month we're diverting all donations to The Common Press crowdfunding campaign.
For all our offerings we suggest a tiered donation scheme:
Supporter Rate (cost of you and another) £15
Sustainer Rate (base cost/just you) £10
Community Rate* £5
Please consider your available resources and financial privilege when selecting what to donate as spaces are limited. You can find out more about sliding scale pricing here.
*The Lower rate represents an honest acknowledgment that there are those whose economic circumstances would prevent them from taking part in the classes offered if there was not a deliberate opportunity made for them to access services at a cost reflective of their economic realities. If you struggle financially, we acknowledge that you should still have access to these classes and that your contribution is equal to those of higher income brackets.
