❓Want to do access better?
❓Got burning questions about how to make your spaces or events more accessible?
❓Know you want to improve things, but not sure where to start?
Quiplash and Raze Collective are teaming to bring you ACCESS THE NIGHT, a day of disability awareness training. Are you a venue owner, producer of nightlife or cabaret, club promoters, nightlife worker, bar manager or a Hackney local with a curiosity or interest in accessibility in the arts. This day is a must for you.
Co-produced by Quiplash and Raze Collective, supported by Hackney Council.
🏡 Hackney Showroom 🗓 Sunday 26th January ⏰ from 11am 🎟 from £5
What to expect?
➡️ The day will start with Quiplash leading a relaxed and open-level disability awareness training. The session is run as conversationally as possible with a mix of chat and practical exercises. Participants are encouraged to ask questions throughout the session as they come up- there are no silly questions.
➡️ In the middle of the day we will have a chilled meet & mixer, time for participants to get to know each other and the different creative projects folks in the community are doing- there’ll be snacky bits and drinks.
➡️ Rounding off the day we have an in-conversation with drag performer and co-founder of Quiplash Amelia Lander-Cavello, poet and access producer at Raze Collective Gayathiri Kamalakanthan, hosted by theatre maker and audio describer Adae Bajomo. They will be talking about the origins of the Raze & Quiplash collaboration, the state of disability justice in queer arts and sharing snippets of work too.

🟣BSL
The training and panel discussion will be BSL interpreted.
🟣Covid Safety
We ask that everyone tests before attending. There will be some tests available at the venue, please arrive at least 20 minutes early to test as you won't be able to enter the main room until the test is completed.
We will provide masks at the event. All Raze and quiplash facilitators will test before the event and stay home if testing positive.
We ask all participants to stay home if they feel unwell, even if it's not COVID, and join us digitally via Zoom.
We will have a Co2 monitor in the space, which means we will open windows and doors when it beeps to maintain good airflow.
We will also have an air filter on in the space through the day.
We will also have the training accessible to you from home, via a zoom link.
🟣Step Free Access
Hackney Showroom is a step-free space, see full accessibility information for the venue here: https://www.hackneyshowroom.com/access-info/
🟣Zoom Room
We will be opening a zoom room if you would like to watch the training and panel from home. Please note, this day is not designed as a hybrid event. If you can come in person, we recommend doing so. It is our ambition to secure funding to facilitate this training again specifically for online. It will not be possible for us to integrate BSL interpretation for zoom participants.
🟣 Zoom captions
We will use Zoom’s auto captions. You can turn these on by clicking or pressing the icon that says CC, usually at the bottom of your screen.
🟣 Relaxed Space
This session is run as relaxed. This means participants can move around, lay down, stretch, snack, stim and do whatever is needed to keep themselves engaged. Participants joining on zoom are also welcome to keep their camera off if that is more comfortable.
🟣 Floating Access Support Workers
A floating access support worker will be in the space should you need any support.
