Framed around unearthing and fabricating local queer history and traditions, deptFOLK invites you to a series of creative writing and performance workshops at the Library at Deptford Lounge every Friday throughout LGBT History Month.
Deptfolk are a queer art collective exploring folk traditions and local history, and is made up of musicians, published writers, Morris dancers, filmmakers and researchers who all live or work in Lewisham. We’ll be creating an open and encouraging environment for people to try creative writing and co-create a group performance to showcase their work. You can expect a visit from Lewisham Local Studies to find out about underground gay bars, riotous Gut Girls and pioneering activists, and to have fun with folk-inspired costume making.
Places are free, but limited! Bring your mothers, lovers, pals, neighbours!
While it is not a requirement that you attend all sessions, we encourage you to come as many as you can and showcase what you create at our public sharing event on Saturday 22nd Feb.
Register your spot here or via the Library website Queering history with DeptFOLK | Events | Lewisham Libraries.
