Pottery Workshop with Kai
Waiting List
In this workshop, we will explore the basics of hand building techniques, focusing on pinch potting and coiling. These methods allow us to create unique ceramic pieces by hand, without the need for a wheel. After shaping their creations, participants will have the option to decorate their pieces with underglaze. Alternatively, they can choose from one of three stoneware glazes for Kai to apply during the firing process. Once the pieces are fired, participants will be invited to pick them up when they are ready. This session provides a fun, hands-on introduction to ceramics, perfect for beginners or anyone looking to explore their creativity.
Kai (they/he) is a ceramicist based in Barking and a resident at A House For Artists. Specializing in community-driven ceramic work, Kai focuses on collaborative projects that encourage participants to connect, learn, and create together. Through their workshops, Kai emphasizes the process of building as a communal experience. In addition to their ceramic practice, Kai is the co-founder of Bean Pig Puppets, a puppet company. Kai believes that art, whether through ceramics or puppetry, is a meaningful way to bring people together and share time together.
