For our first gathering of 2025 Sy invites you to reconnect to your own pace.
“Do you move at the speed of trust or the speed of fight?” Octavia F. Raheem, rest advocate and author of Rest is Sacred.
The beginning of a new year can often feel loaded with a sense of urgency, to race forward and get ahead. This month’s gathering is an opportunity to bring a needed pause this learned pace and to start getting reacquainted with your natural rhythm. And yes, we will rest.
What to expect…
This gathering is an opportunity to practice a short restorative yoga practice in a cosy environment with a small group of like-minded folks. There will be a brief introduction and intention setting practice to start followed by a 30minute floor based restorative practice. This can be adapted for those who may prefer to use a chair. We’ll then break for tea, reflection and integration after our rest. Props such as bolsters, blankets, mats and foam blocks will be available to fill in the negative space under the body so that it may rest in alignment. This practice is taught with trauma sensitivity and you will not be required to remain still throughout the practice. Your autonomy and sense of agency are both respected and celebrated.
What to Bring…
Please wear comfortable loose clothing or whatever you feel most at ease to rest in. Layers may be handy to help regulate your temperature. We will have blankets and bolsters available but you may prefer your own blanket or cushion from home. Feel free to bring any snacks or nibbles, comfort items, journal etc. anything that you may need to feel present in the space.
Accessibility
The Space: This offering is currently booked in a first floor studio and not wheel chair accessible, however efforts will be made to accommodate specific accessibility needs if brought to our attention, we may be able to offer online slots or move to the ground floor studio in some cases with enough notice. There is on street parking nearby and a short journey down a cobbled street is required to access the studio. We have mats and bolsters for seating as well as chairs available upon request. There are two gender neutral restrooms in the building one on the same floor and one on the ground floor, unfortunately these are not wheelchair accessible. There is also a treatment room which can be used as a break out space. There is gas and infrared heating, fans for when it’s warm, as well as tea making facilities on site. The studio has dimmable warm lighting. The studio & equipment is regularly aired and sanitised, however please be considerate of others health and spacial needs when in the space. There are masks available and hand sanitisers. Do not attend if you are feeling unwell, have symptoms or could be COVID positive. If you have any queries or requests, please contact us here.
Donations
These offerings are supported by donations from our cosy clubbers, this month we're diverting all donations to The Outside Project.
For all our offerings we suggest a tiered donation scheme:
Supporter Rate (cost of you and another) £15
Sustainer Rate (base cost/just you) £10
Community Rate* £5
Please consider your available resources and financial privilege when selecting what to donate as spaces are limited. You can find out more about sliding scale pricing here.
*The Lower rate represents an honest acknowledgment that there are those whose economic circumstances would prevent them from taking part in the classes offered if there was not a deliberate opportunity made for them to access services at a cost reflective of their economic realities. If you struggle financially, we acknowledge that you should still have access to these classes and that your contribution is equal to those of higher income brackets.
