Here is a little bit about the charities we are supporting…
Mind (Charity Number 219830)
Even though 1 in 4 people have mental health problems, most of us don’t get the help we need. This has to change. We’re Mind. We’re here to fight for mental health. For support, for respect, for you.
How do we make a difference?
We change minds across England and Wales by making mental health an everyday priority. By standing up to the injustices – in healthcare, in work, in law – which make life harder for those of us with mental health problems.
We support minds – by offering help whenever you might need it through our information, advice and local services.
And we connect minds. Bringing together an unstoppable network of individuals and communities – people who care about mental health to make a difference.
Help us campaign for change
We believe everyone with a mental health problem should have access to excellent care and services. We believe you should be treated fairly, positively and with respect.
We campaign on a range of issues that could affect anybody with a mental health problem. This includes health services, legislation, legal rights and employment.
Mental health training in your workplace
We can help bring about real change, end discrimination and promote good mental health through our workplace training and consultancy.
We offer a range of training packages, including face-to-face sessions, eLearning courses, and our Workplace Wellbeing Index - a benchmark of best practice for workplace mental health.
Support our work
We couldn't do what we do without support from people like you. With your help, we can be there for everyone who needs us.
Samaritans (Charity Number 219432)
Whatever you’re facing, a Samaritan will face it with you
Every 10 seconds, Samaritans responds to a call for help.
We’re here, day or night, for anyone who’s struggling to cope, who needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure.
Samaritans is not only for the moment of crisis, we’re taking action to prevent the crisis.
We give people ways to cope and the skills to be there for others. And we encourage, promote and celebrate those moments of connection between people that can save lives.
We offer listening and support to people and communities in times of need.
In prisons, schools, hospitals and on the rail network, Samaritans are working with people who are going through a difficult time and training others to do the same.
Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy, and Samaritans’ vision is that fewer people die by suicide.
That’s why we work tirelessly to reach more people and make suicide prevention a priority.
During 2023, around 23,000 people volunteered their time for Samaritans.
- Almost 20,000 trained listening volunteers responded to calls for help.
- Around 2,500 volunteers supported the running of more than 200 branches and locations across the UK and Ireland.
- Over 1,300 people in prison volunteered as trained Listeners.
Our Vision
Our vision is that fewer people die by suicide.
To achieve this, we believe Samaritans has a crucial role to play in:
- Reducing the risk factors that make some people more likely to take their own lives.
- Ensuring that people who are at increased risk of suicide are supported.
- Making it less likely that people who do experience suicidal thoughts act on them.
- Reducing the likelihood that people will develop suicidal thoughts.
Our Mission
We’re here every day and night of the year for anyone struggling to cope. We make sure people have somewhere to turn and support when they need it most. We work with communities to let people know we’re here for them and we campaign to make suicide prevention a priority.
Our Values
Our support services adapt to the changing environment, but the values at the core of our listening service remain constant:
Listening
Exploring feelings alleviates distress and helps people to reach a better understanding of their situation and the options open to them.
Confidentiality
If people feel safe, they are more likely to be open about their feelings.
Non-judgemental
We want people to be able to talk to us without fear of prejudice or rejection.
People making their own decisions
We believe that people have the right to find their own solution and that telling people what to do takes responsibility away from them.
Human contact
Giving people time, undivided attention and empathy meets a fundamental emotional need and reduces distress and despair.
