Jonny Woo & Xnthony are excited to announce a series of performance WERKshops taking place at The Glory across Spring 2019. Specially geared towards creatives new and old, the WERKshops will explore many facets of creative practice including writing, comedy, drag and even all that artist admin noone understands.
Our first WERKshop will led by Jonny Woo and Xnthony and starts on April 27th, 10-2pm. Spaces are limited and are £20 each available at outsavvy.com.
Jonny will lead the writing workshop aspect of the WERKshop with exercises to help kickstart your writing practice in preparation for performance. Starting with short free writing exercises and moving onto slightly longer structured exercises based around memories and personal stories. These exercises will generate writing from which material will be extracted to be the basis of a short performance. These exercises are suitable for those with writing experience or for those who are new to writing. No preparation is needed but please bring a note pad and pen.
Xnthony will work with participants on taking material to the stage, strategies for unlocking creative potential and crucial aspects of having a functioning creative practice like artist statements and funding applications. All that boring stuff that will make your days easier and more structured. Particiapants are encouraged to bring written material (or work made earlier with Jonny) they want to work on.
WERKshops' are perfect for new artists interested in developing their writing and good artistic habits. It’s equally suitable for experienced makers looking to revitalise their writing or for newbies starting totally from scratch.
WERKshop is an offshoot of The Glory’s monthly work-in-progress event hosted and curated by Xnthony and created by Jonny Woo. Further WERKshops will take place across the Spring & Summer and will be led by a plethora of the UK’s leading performance makers, comedians and writers.
