Join us to reflect on the legacy of anti-fascist organising in Britain — from the 1980s to today, our communities have always resisted. One year on from last summer’s programs, we come together to honour that history and look forward.
Tariq Mehmood
Tariq Mehmood migrated to Bradford, West Yorkshire in the 1960s where his uncles and grandfather worked in the textile mills. In 1981 Tariq Mehmood along with 11 others was arrested on charges of terrorism in a case that became known as the Bradford 12. All the defendants were acquitted. He has worked on a number of documentaries with Migrant Media of London. He is the co-director of Injustice, an award-winning feature documentary that examines deaths in police custody.
Tariq Mehmood is one of the founders of the Pothowari language movement. He has written many articles, short stories and children's books published in it.
Gargi Bhattacharyya
Gargi Bhattacharyya is Director of the Sarah Parker Remond Centre for the Study of Racism and Racialisation at University College London. Professor Bhattacharyya is the author ofThe Futures of Racial Capitalism (Polity, 2022), Rethinking Racial Capitalism (Rowman & Littlefield, 2018), and Traffick: The Illicit Movement of People and Things (Pluto, 2005), amongst other works.
