Transmission Zone is an evening of storytelling, audio-visual art and interactive performance showcasing sci-fi, fantasy, surrealism and weird fiction.
EPISODE 1, THEME:
FROM RUBBLE
This first iteration of Transmission.Zone explores themes of the apocalypse. Specifically post-apocalyptic as opposed to the catastrophic events leading up to it (because the latter would be more like creative non-fiction or documentary…)
Influenced by science fiction novels such as Earth Abides by , Always Coming Home by Ursula K. Le Guin, Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, Ridley Walker by Russell Hoban, How We Got Along After the Bomb by Phillip K. Dick
Another big influence and it’s one I invite you all to draw direct inspiration from is the incidents surrounding the book In the Dust of this Planet and the appropriation of the title by mainstream pop, in the Beyonce and Jay Z video. The idea that, under late capitalism…the apocalypse is around the corner but it is just another aesthetic, another trend to be sold on the market ss a packaged, consumable commodity.
