Join us on Aug. 1, 7-9pm, at the Common Press Bookshop (118 Bethnal Green Road, London, E2 6DG) for a night of poetry that celebrates The Age of Olive Trees, the debut collection by Gaza-based poet Haia Mohammed. We’ll have readings by poets Ethan Chua, Noah J, Abu Leila, Bidhya Limbu, Stephanie Niu, Tayiba Sulaiman, and Conan Tan; Haia will also join us over Zoom if circumstances allow. All funds raised will go to Haia and her family. If you'd like to independently donate to Haia's fundraiser for her and her community in al-Mawasi, you can do so here: https://gofund.me/ea7ced8c
Ticket options are pay what you want (£5 minimum), entry + a copy of The Age of Olive Trees (£12), and free entry for those who need it.
As Lebanese poet Zeina Hashem Beck writes in her review of Haia’s collection:
“She writes, ‘I will not seek your pity.’ Because Gaza doesn’t need our pity. And when Gaza’s poets speak, we listen. Mohammed’s poetry documents, questions, and resists. Listen.”
