Join us for an evening of performances, readings and dancing to celebrate the launch of bold new indie mag: Louche, Issue 1! Louche is an independent print magazine about drag and queer performance, and the only UK-based publication dedicated to the full spectrum of this diverse art form without making distinctions or hierarchies between 'king' and 'queen'.
Asking urgent questions about drag today, Issue 1: Beginnings and Becomings takes a critical and constructive approach to queer performance culture: its past, present and future. This is not limited to troubling the gender binary in drag and the idea of ‘kings’ and ‘queens’ as distinct categories, but looking at femininity as explored by trans masc and femmeboys, a Dragony Aunt column serving fresh T, and more! We queer the archive, and draw on the legacy of drag as political action in hom(o)age to pioneers of the LGBTQI community such as Sylvia Rivera and Stormé DeLarverie, pivotal figures in the 1969 New York Stonewall riots, as well as radical 1970s UK drag troupe, Bloolips. Featuring contributions from over thirty drag performers, writers and illustrators.
Come party with us!
