Not Just a Rainbow: Who LGBTQ+ Spaces Really Work For
We often talk about the LGBTQ+ community as though it is one united group, but is that really the experience of everyone within it?
In this honest and thought-provoking session, Andi Knowles explores the realities of power, privilege, belonging, and exclusion within LGBTQ+ spaces. Drawing on lived experience and years of work in equality, diversity and inclusion, Andrea examines why some voices are amplified while others remain unheard, and what this means for individuals and our communities.
Why am I doing this?:
Most of my speaking engagements take place at conferences, organisational events, and leadership forums, which can make them inaccessible to many people who would like to hear these conversations but don't have the budget, employer sponsorship, or opportunity to attend.
Through Equity Andi Talks, I want to make some of these discussions available to a wider audience at a genuinely affordable price. My aim is to create a space where community members, activists, allies, students, professionals, and anyone with an interest in inclusion can access thought-provoking conversations without the cost of a keynote ticket or conference pass.
Meaningful conversations about equity, belonging, and social justice shouldn't be reserved for those who can afford them.
Format: 30-minute talk + 10-minute Q&A followed by optional networking in the chat.
