QUEER MEANS OF PRODUCTION: A POSTER WORKSHOP.
Sold Out
A workshop as part of GLF AT 50; THE ART OF PROTEST Exhibition at Platform Southwark, 17-29 August.
Solidarity is a matter of content--what you believe in--as well as form: how you say it. In solidarity with all oppressed groups who have had to take the means of information production into their own hands, LGBTQIA+ activists have long produced their own printed works, from books and pamphlets to posters for use in protest. In this workshop we'll look at a brief history of posters used in protest in both the early gay liberation movement and the forces from which it drew some of its strength: Black Power, Women's Liberation, and anti-imperialist struggle both within and outside of the UK. Then we'll take to the page together, adapting these historical materials to our own struggles for liberation and making our own posters.
Materials will be provided, as well as a keepsake zine. This workshop will be held outside and participants must wear a mask.
For those that can't attend, Camp Books can send along the zine which will have everything you need to have a workshop in the safety of your own room.
Bio: Queer Pasts Nourish Queer Futures: Camp Books (http://campbooks.biz) was established by writer & educator Brooke Palmieri in 2018 as a platform to promote LGBTQIA+ history through teaching, publishing, and building collections of rare books & archival materials.
