A workshop as part of GLF AT 50; THE ART OF PROTEST Exhibition at Platform Southwark, 17-29 August.
Counter Mapping Queer Protest and Activism
A workshop run by Claire Tunnacliffe, Lo Marshall and Ben Campkin, UCL Urban Lab
Followed by GLF AT 50; THE ART OF PROTEST Closing Party
This workshop invites LGBTQIA+ activists to co-produce maps on the spaces of activism and protest, exploring the places and people their campaigns connect with. Beginning with the sites of GLF activism in London, and their connections to contemporary lesbian and gay commercial and community scenes and venues, conversation will expand on different eras of activism, across different generations, and how social movements overlap and move within and beyond urban and national borders.
Participants will be invited to collaborate in producing a series of maps and share experiences of sites of queer protest and activism. Registered participants will be sent some prompts to help them identify relevant places and will be encouraged to bring memorabilia to add to the maps.
