Objects of Desire is an archive of sex workers’ stories told through objects. As sex workers, we face a lot of barriers to telling our stories. When we do speak, we are speaking in a landscape saturated with images created by those telling stories about us - Hollywood movies, tabloid tirades, academic analysis. Objects of Desire is a collective led by sex workers that challenges this and tells our stories how we want them to be told.
This workshop will introduce Objects of Desire's archive, why we chose to start the archive, and then look at our stories of love, joy, shame, fear, frustration, and the boring day to day drudgery of work. Participants will consider what stories they would want to tell about their lives, which stories they would prefer not to have recorded, and how they'd like these to be passed on. This workshop prioritises those with experience of sex work, but welcomes anyone who is interested.
