Legendary queer collective, Queer house party and the Margate Arts Club are hosting a Margate PRIDE after after party at the LIDO.
Queer House Party is an award-winning LGBTQI collective & club night. It was started in lockdown by friends, co-organisers, and DJs who all worked in frontline jobs and recognised the need for a safe and radical space to come together as a queer community. Since then, they have built a huge, dedicated following through a commitment to putting accessibility and politics to the front of their parties, consistently campaigning across a number of issues, and profiling grassroots activists and artists in their events. Each member of QHP is involved in numerous artistic and political projects in addition to the collective, and this brings huge energy and raw power to QHP as a platform for shifting the narrative around queer nightlife spaces from commercialism to radical transformation and connection.
The night has now made the leap from online to IRL, selling out every event they’ve put on at iconic London venues including Colour Factory and the Garage. In addition to their own parties, they’ve brought radical queer excellence to festivals and club nights across the UK, and are looking forward to a huge summer of championing grassroots performers and accessibility in spaces that have traditionally not been welcoming to marginalised and/or non-normative queerness.
The performances feature a mix of local and internationally recognised queer talent that pushes boundaries whilst always bringing incredible energy. DJs and co-directors of the collective, Harry Gay, Wacha and passer, have featured on numerous radio shows (with mixes going out on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6) and regularly feature in lineups across the UK. Host Liv Wynter has performed internationally and has sold out numerous theaters with their anarchist performances, and Taali is a notable presence on the gogo and hosting scene, particularly within the black queer community. They’re renowned for their unique blend of a huge range of dance music, from House, Garage, Pop, and Disco to Global Club, Jersey Club, Ballroom, Baltimore and Footwork. The DJs refer to their style as ‘Bangers and Trash’, and it never fails to get the dancefloor pumping. At a recent QHP event in autumn 2021, Olly Alexander (Years & Years) blew the audience away with a secret midnight set which was spectacular. They are now set to join Years & Years on their UK tour along with countless festivals both nationally and internationally.
QHP continues to create a space that is not only accessible for the whole LGBTIQ+ community but puts issues they care about to the front. Mostly, they think raving and kicking off go hand-in-hand, and they’re here to show you how.
Kris Di Angelis joins the Queer House Party
Also known by his stage name KDA, Kris is a house music producer and DJ from London. He is best known for his 2015 song "Rumble", which was first released on Ministry of Sound, but was subsequently reworked featuring vocals from Tinie Tempah and Katy B titled "Turn the Music Louder (Rumble)".
While he’s garnering attention for his remixes of Lily Allen and Roisin Murphy, which all came from his scurrilously good bootlegs of Kylie, Groove Armada, Madonna, Empire Of The Sun, Ladyhawke, and Daft Punk, Kris’s residencies at Pooldisco, and Jodie Harsh’s club night, Circus, have seen him providing the weekend soundtrack for London’s fashion and club crowd, playing alongside everyone from Riva Starr, William Orbit, Filthy Dukes and Roisin Murphy, to Jessie J, Horse Meat Disco, Thomas Gandey and Hercules & Love Affair. Kris has recently played Manchester’s Warehouse Project, and has rocked the floors of Fabric, Space, Trailer Trash, Sink The Pink, Bungalow 8, Dalston Superstore, Cargo and Proud 2. . His infamous live remixes/bootlegs feature everything from Herve and The Italo Boyz to Skream, Cut Copy, Bjork and Marlena Shaw, mirroring the way crowds now approach the dancefloor with open minds. There are no sacred cows and everything is up for grabs. He also has a weekly radio show on Ronnie Scotts’ station, which gives him the opportunity to indulge his love of old soul and funk.
