TRANS CHORUS is a vocal exploration space ran for and by trans and gender non conforming people. Using embodied practices, we come together to revel in the sounds that come naturally to us, embracing that our voices may sit outside of gendered expectations. Routed in improvising and oral traditions of sharing music, TRANS CHORUS aims to co-create a songbook that represents the experiences of trans and gender non-conforming folks. No previous experience of singing or vocal improvising is required, just awillingness to listen and respond with openness and kindness.
TRANS CHORUS is led by vocalist and music well-being facilitator, margomool, with the model of bringing in artists from other practices to facilitate sessions. Coming froma self-taught background, margo has cultivated their practice through improvisationalspaces and performing. They have shared lineups with the likes of Sarathy Korwar andLaura Misch, and have appeared on stages such as Love Supreme Jazz festival. Drivenby a belief that everyone should have space to musically express themselves, margofacilitates accessible sonic spaces, specialising in supporting people who are neurodiverseand or transgender. They resonate with creative embodiment practices that nourishindividual and collective relationships with the vocal body and artistic curiosity.
