Join us on Thursday 28th for an International Women's Day special celebrating trans women.
We'll have readings from our favourite books by trans women: some political, some joyful, some gross, and some very sexy. As well as, plenty time for mingling afterwards.
Readings by:
Chloe Filani
Chloe Filani is an Artist of Poetry, Performance, Black Feminism, Public Speaker and workshop facilitator. Her artistic practice/poetry works with her lived experience of being a black trans woman and the broader themes of identity of power structures and finding hope in the imagination and storytelling. Her work is an exploration of the metaphysical, the feeling and things. ‘Why black joy Why black sorrow why negro spirituals’.
Her poetry and writing intertwines her lived experiences as Black trans woman of Nigerian Yoruba heritage with ideas of precolonial trans femme ancestors as poetic heroines. “In my writing I have reimagined possible stories or folklore of Yoruba and Esan trans femme people and how they lived, loved and laughed, in their communities and in their families,” she explains.
Alison Rumfitt
Alison Rumfitt is a writer and semi-professional trans woman. Her debut pamphlet of poetry, The T(y)ranny, was a critical deconstruction of Margaret Atwood’s work through the lens of a trans woman navigating her own misogynistic dystopia. It was published by Zarf Editions in 2019. Tell Me I’m Worthless is her debut novel. Her work has appeared in countless publications such as SPORAZINE, datableed, The Final Girls, Burning House Press, SOFT CARTEL, Glass Poetry and more. Her poetry was nominated - twice! - for the Rhysling Award in 2018. You can find her on Twitter @hangsawoman and @alison.zone on Instagram.
